Motacam Taxi CCTV Ltd mainly specialise in the manufacture, supply, and installation of taxi CCTV systems to the licenced Hackney carriage and private hire industry. Our aim is to become one of the leading suppliers of systems and accessories throughout the UK for Local Authorities, taxi, and private hire companies.

A minimum standard, system specification was produced, and together with various government bodies, such as the Information Commissioners Office, The Surveillance Camera Commissioner and the Home Secretary, strict regulations as to the type, use and handling of taxi CCTV systems and recorded data were introduced.

Motacam’s range of taxi CCTV systems not only meet these requirements but, in most cases, exceed them. We strive to ensure that all systems are secure from tampering, and installed not only for the driver’s safety, but also for the passengers.

All cameras installed, must be unobtrusive and be able to catch all occupants faces clearly during the day or at night during complete darkness, so must incorporate low light, Infra-Red with wide angled lenses (not fishbowl lens)

Our own branded unit consists of the latest 1080P, 4 channel, Mobile Digital Video Recorder (MDVR) motherboard, fitted within our own specifically designed, and branded, lockable, security case, manufactured using marine grade steel, and is epoxy powder coated to give a long lasting, clean finish.

Each MDVR 4 x 4 pin aviation video connections, 1 x audio in/out RCA connection, 1 x HDMI and 1 x SVGA Connection with aviation connection, 1 Ethernet port and 1 x USB port and 1 x power supply socket. Also 1 x GPS, 1 x Wi-Fi and 1 x 3G/4G antenna connections and antennas

Each system supports up to 4TB SSD Hard disk drive, 1 x 512GB SD card and Mobile Data Sim card.

The 4G mobile, Wi-Fi, and GPS routers – uses a mobile SIM card, this allows the data controller live remote viewing within the vehicle, with complete wireless download/upload connection from any location worldwide.

Recorded footage can include location tracking, vehicle speed, as well as time, date and vehicle stamping as evidence, should the need arise. Drivers can also offer passengers free in-car WIFI connectivity as a selling point.

Our CCTV MDVR system can be used as an additional security system to the vehicles own manufacturers security. We can delay the MDVR shutdown to allow system to keep recording continually for up to 4 hours after engine shut down. This enables the system to catch potential thieves, vandals, or accidents in the act.

Under current regulations, constant audio recording isn’t allowed as this infringes a person’s right to privacy, however, timed panic button microphones allow passengers or drivers to activate the audio recording to match up with video footage, which acts as secondary evidence to vocal incidents such as abuse and racism. It would also be deemed unlawful, unfair, and excessive under data protection legislation and a breach of “Article 8 of the Human Rights Act 1998.” Having a timed microphone panic button for both driver and passengers, together with appropriate signage for passenger’s attention, allows the use of recordings as both parties are fully aware that in any serious incident, they both have the right to activate this operation.

As well as the MDVR system incorporating a 2-stage encryption log on, we can also provide a fully military grade encrypted SSD hard drive to add another higher layer of security to what could be, extremely sensitive recorded footage. Encryption level is to FIPS 140-2. (The FIPS 140-2 standard is an information technology security approval program for cryptographic modules produced by private sector vendors who seek to have their products certified for use in government departments and regulated industries (such as financial and health-care institutions) that collect, store, transfer, share and disseminate sensitive but unclassified (SBU) information.)
